Well known as an historic district in the Boston area, Beacon Hill is located along the banks of the Charles River and is home to a population of around 26,000 people.  A couple of unique features of the Beacon Hill area include gas-lit street lights and sidewalks made of brick.

Beacon Hill got it’s name from a beacon that once sat on one of Boston’s highest point, behind what is now the Massachusetts State House.

One of Beacon Hill’s more famous residents was Rebecca Lee Crumpler, who was the first African-American woman ever admitted to Medical School back in 1860.  Poet Robert L Frost and Louisa May Alcott, known for penning the novel “Little Women”, also once resided in Beacon Hill.

In 1962 Beacon Hill was given the designation of an Historic Landmark and today is considered one of the more exclusive and desirable neighborhoods in which to reside.
