Dorchester Movers
Dorchester is an old neighborhood of Boston, MA. The very first town meeting in Dorchester was held on the 8th of October back in 1633. October 8th is still celebrated today as “Town Meeting Day”.
In 1765 an Irish immigrant named John Hannon first introduced chocolate to the United States. Living in Dorchester, he imported cocoa beans from the West Indies, and partnering with American investor Dr. James Baker, (of Baker’s Cocoa fame) opened the first chocolate factory in, Walter Baker & Company. The factory, located in Dorchester remained in operation until 1965.
A popular country retreat for Boston’s elite during the Victorian Era, Dorchester then developed into a bedroom community with easy access to Boston by streetcar. Dorchester also became one of the first racially integrated communities in the U.S. at the turn of the century.
