It has been said that the Boston neighborhood of  North End is the safest in the city.  Touted as Boston’s first neighborhood, the North End was once know as the Island of North Boston, as it is surrounded by water on three sides.

An Anglican church was built in the North End in the 1700′s which saw a decrease in worship of the Puritan faith.  The steeple of the new church rose 191 feet in the air and soon became a beacon for ships coming into Boston’s harbour and this remained the case for over a century.

In about 1748 a young Paul Revere, (he was 15) became the bell-ringer for the new Anglican church.  This position paid him five cents a month.  Paul took over the family business after learning the art of gold and silversmithing after his father died, and when Paul was only 19 years old.  He also made business cards and book plates as a copper plate engraver to supplement the family’s income.
