West Roxbury Movers
The population of the Boston neighborhood of West Roxbury has been steadily declining for quite a time. In the 1980′s the area had a population of over 32,000 and by 2000, this number had declined to just over 28,000. Roxbury and West Roxbury separated in 1851 after a conflict between the urban and rural parts of the town. In 1874, West Roxbury became a suburb of the city of Boston.
The Westerly Burying ground has been a source of interest since the secession of West Roxbury and many of the town’s early (and prominent) families are buried there, along with American Civil War and Revolution veterans. There is a significant collection of funerary art on site, which remains notable as gravestones dating as far back as the 1600′s remain on display and are intact. The skills of three centuries of local stone carvers are preserved in the headstones that remain.
Actor Anthony Michael Hall was born in West Roxbury. Although he acted in numerous films from an early age, he didn’t really gain much attention until he played a role in the 1982 Kenny Rogers film Six Pack, then gained further notice in the role of Rusty Griswold, as the son of Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) in National Lampoon’s Vacation.
